Today we headed into Smokey Mountain National Park to go to Cade's Cove. Even though the trip is only about 35 miles it is a long drive. Beautiful, but long. We ate breakfast at The Red Rooster before heading out to the park. Our first stop was at the visitor center where we bout the obligatory t-shirt, and a toy for Daisy! Then we continued on the way to Cade's Cove. We stopped at 3 of the old churches on the way. Here is one of them.
When we got to Cade's Cove we looked at all of the buildings. The mill is the greatest. It was grinding corn into corn meal while we were there. Here are Helen and Ron in front of the water wheel.
And Ron on an old farm implement.
On the way out we saw a deer. Other than that the only wildlife we saw were wild turkeys.
When we got out of the park we stopped in Gatlinburg to eat because it was past 3 and we were starving. We ate lunch and then wandered the town a bit stopping at the moonshine tasting booth! Wow was that stuff awful! But the most amazing part of our stop in Gatlinburg was that when I looked for my keys for Ron to go back to the car, I couldn't find them. When we had arrived and were just getting out of the car Mike called so I got out of the car talking to him. When we got back to the car, it was still running!!! Yep - the keys were in the ignition, the car was still on and low and behold the amazing part was it was still there! No - children it is not quite time to put me in the old folks home but it may not be far off! I cannot believe that I did that and the the car was still there with all the possessions still inside! Anyhow, that was our day - a good one - and one that ended with me being a really lucky old lady!

I've almost done that too (without my kids, even). Has nothing to do with age. At least, I like to think it doesn't. Can't believe nobody stole it or called in the bomb squad. Too funny!
Besides, I would need it to be an old folks home that would allow you to babysit. :-D
